FAQ — Non-EU citizens

Answers to the questions we hear most from Non-EU citizens settling in Bilbao.

The NIE is your identification number; the TIE is the physical residence card that displays it. Non-EU residents need the card.

For any stay beyond 90 days, yes — student, work, family or non-lucrative. The visa is granted by the Spanish consulate before you travel. The number itself can be requested in parallel from your home country; Gestoraz is one of the private firms that does this with no counter visit.

Within 30 days of reaching Bilbao you book a fingerprint appointment, submit the EX-17 and photographs, and collect the card a few weeks on. We manage the booking and the paperwork.

Yes, with an autorización de regreso, which we can arrange so you may leave and re-enter Spain lawfully.

Most non-EU residence categories require full private cover with no copays. We can put you in touch with policies the Bilbao office accepts.
